Here are some of the important tips that you should remember.

Do a bit of homework, read about the company and jot down important and relevant points, this will be helpful when you relate your skills to what the company is expecting from you.


Never be late for the interview.


The first judgement an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing even before you speak a word, therefore its important to dress appropriately.


Do not lie or pretend; remember, the HR is not a joker but they've put years of study and experience to practical analysis. Instead help them understand why things are so.


Carry a positive approach and not an overconfident attitude, because sometimes your complex answer can be beyond their understanding, meaning; you may have the best of IT skills, but a HR won't, so your best answer should be a simple one.

When you speak about yourself, stick to the things that you've mentioned in the CV, if you want to speak of anything out of it then keep it short.


Ask questions, this shows that you are interested in the whole conversation.


If you didn't understand something that the HR asked you, tell them that, they will be nice and rephrase it to you.

Always be nice to anyone you meet along in the office; chances are that the HR might just have passed by and noticed you.

























Listed below are some of the most frequent questions asked, it is suggested that you take these as reference and not just mug it up.



Tell me about yourself.
This is the best chance to advertise yourself, do not boast but relate your important skills that you think the HR needs to know. Imagine an advertisement that you see on TV, most of the important features or best selling points are shown in such a short time. Similarly try to fit the important skills in a short given time.


Why should I hire you?
Being on time always, work hard, team player, etc. are some of the silly answers which you should avoid. To answer this question reflect on your previous job experience and the achievements, the HR needs to know what good you can do for the company. If you were recognised for something in the previous company, mention it, let the HR know that if you could have done it there you will outperform in this company. Relate your important skills that fits the job requirements. Its not appropriate to speak about how good they pay or holidays benefits because they will get the idea that you are more interested in the perks rather than the company.


What are your strengths and weaknesses?
This needs you to reflect on your previous experience again, think of some of the best points to speak on your strengths, for example, saying that you're always punctual won't make sense because that is something expected from you no matter what, but saying something like being there well before time and updated yourself with the latest news of the company, helped colleagues with some pending work might actually be a good answer.

Your weaknesses should never point on something that could ruin the interview, say something like gossips, everyone likes gossiping so this answer won't impact a lot, but tell them sometimes gossiping helped you learn more about the company or your job role.


Can you work under pressure?
Yes, there are challenges in every kind of work, give some examples about your achievements and tough situations that you've overcome in the previous organisation.


Are you willing to relocate or travel?
If you think you can tell them you have no problems doing so, many a times the HR just needs to see how confident you are when you speak. But if for some reason you are not willing to relocate or travel for the job tell them that and explain why.


How long would you expect to work for us if hired?
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

These two questions may be considered similar depends on how you choose to answer them; the HR in other words is trying to understand if you are really interested in working with them for years to come. Always keep your answer realistic, do not say that you see yourself working as the Manager of the company within 5 years of joining them, because it might take beyond 8-10 years of experience and specific qualification to achieve that position. You would want to say that you see yourself working with the company even after five years or so and keep growing no matter how challenging it seems. Avoid saying that you want to see yourself working with the topmost companies or migrate to a foreign country, although this might be your honest answer but this is not what the company is looking for in any candidates when hiring.


How much salary do you expect?
You might have an exact figure in mind based on your research about the job and the company, but never reveal this in the beginning. You can specify a range, or ask for one. You can say that you're looking at a fair and competitive market rate. If the HR insists for an exact amount, you can then tell them what you have in mind, the HR might talk about negotiation of course, you may give it your best shot at this stage.


Do you have any questions for me?
This is your chance to ask anything about the company or the job, ask wisely.


Why did you resign from your previous job?
You may tell them that you were looking for a wider scope and more challenges, never say anything bad about the employer, because although you might be speaking the truth but you are also telling them about your behaviour.
Your previous employer will not speak anything against you in case the HR called them for reference, similarly its important that you respect them too.


May I contact your present employer for a reference?
You can definitely say yes to this question, you might also want to inform your reporting supervisor or your immediate team leader well in advance about this.
